Insomnia Films has launched the first in a series of commercials for The Melanoma Foundation. The key message-that every year, more than 1,000 Australians die from melanoma with sun damage before the age of 20 the major cause-forms the premise of this public awareness campaign. The 60, 30 and 15 second public service spots feature Steve Nielsen, who as a young man fighting an 8 year battle with melanoma, communicates the impact dying has on himself, his family, wife and child. Nielsen died last year, just three days after his 29th birthday as the melanoma spread to this lungs, spine and brain.

The TVCs were developed from footage of Tara Brown's 60 Minutes interviews with Nielsen and gives a harrowing account of the last days of his life. More than just an awareness campaign, the ads tell people of all ages to protect themselves against sun damage and directs them to which has detailed information on melanoma, prevention and early detection. The TVCs will be supported by ongoing PR activity involving Megan Gale, the inaugural ambassador of The Melanoma Foundation.
